yes you can!

i have a small garden.  despite this crazy heat {and drought} it's doing well.  i even picked my first bell pepper last night!!  last year they didn't make, so this was an exciting time for me.

by the by, if you need any cucumbers....call me.  seriously.

anyways, my parents have a crazy HUGE garden and the bounty is beyond plentiful.  like, for reals, y'all.

so we're canning.  everyday my mom puts up pickles (her faves are bread & butter, which i loathe), salsa, tomato sauce, etc.  so last night i headed over to share in the bounty.

i foolishly thought i'd be able to do both my marinara sauce AND salsa.  but with 3 kiddos running around and asking for ridiculous things like dinner, and water, and bathroom breaks...well, it was a salsa only night.  so ole!

a plethora of cooked down tomatoes.

{while blogging doh doh just came in and started twirling.  she asked me if i'm a princess or a mad.  i think she's been hitting the Sleeping Booty a little too hard lately.}

i chopped so many jalapenos my hands burned all night long.  cuh-razy.

anybody have a good salsa recipe?  i winged it.  probably not the best idea since i put up 4 quarts of it.

my parents' salsa tastes a little like picante sauce.  it's good, but i wanted my own taste.  so i decided to just do my usual and just season and taste.  i usually make pico de gallo:  fresh tomatoes, jalapenos, cilantro, salt, lime juice.  but you can't can that.

{can't can.  that's hilarious.  you can't can't can, but you can can't can.  is it sad that i'm laughing out loud at this?  ok, moving on.........}

we'll see how the salsa tastes after marinating for awhile.  i had some last night that didn't get canned.  it was good.  still warm, but good.  my man said it was too tomatoey.  yep.  that's my man.  he has no compliments.  only criticisms.  back off, ladies.  he's taken.

oh well.  even if it's a flop for chip dipping, it'll still be great in my enchiladas.  see?  i always have a silver lining.  too tomatoey or not. {sigh}

and of course a trip to my parents' house is not complete without a little banjo music.  sorry folks, but this is all you get this time.  just a pic of one of my dad's beloved banjos.  perhaps, if i can ever figure out how to load video, i'll post my dad & me singing some great bluegrass tunes.

what?  not interested?!?!?
