my kids have may, june, & july birthdays. yeah, it's birthday palooza around here. not to mention mother's day, nephew birthdays, father's day, other family birthdays....oh my.
we usually just do family parties...no friends, just the fam. this year we did a combined party for both boys. a friend party.
we did a camping theme. SO. MUCH. FUN.
my boys love to camp. they love camping stuff. they love all things campy. {giggle}
we rented the play area at my parents' church. which is AWESOME. we love playing there. big indoor slides, fun mirrors, the whole she-bang. lots of fun.
honestly, i'm a terrible photographer. i still have no idea how to use my dslr camera that i got 7 months ago. {sigh}
we only had 15 minutes to set up for the party. 15 minutes?!?!?! seriously?!?! yep. they told me {later} that some people rent it for 2 time slots so that they can have plenty of time to set up. that would've been helpful to know before the party.
we made a mad dash & got it all set up. i barely got any pictures before the guests started arriving.
while i'm working on this post i'm canning marinara sauce. my entire house smells fantastico! i will henceforth be known as francesca. make sure you roll that r, please.
does anyone else find it funny that while my house smells fantastico! from my amazing marinara, my kids are eating cereal for dinner? anyone? no?
see my cake? cute, right? it was a bit of a flop. my icing didn't have enough time to really set up...plus it was a HOT and HUMID day. i also used applesauce instead of oil and my cake was SO MOIST that it cracked! doesn't matter. the fellas loved it and it was deeeeeeeeeeeelicious!!!!!!
thank you pinterest for this idea. a campfire cake. my boys thought it rocked.
we will definitely be doing this theme again. it was too much fun! i wish i had a picture of the other tables. i used camping-themed scrapbook paper in the center with balloons. simple. cute. definitely a repeat. i had planned to make little campfires out of rocks, sticks, tissue paper, but it didn't happen in the 15 minute set-up time. [sigh}
yesterday bruiser started talking about what kind of party he wanted for his birthday. i had to remind him that we've already done his party. he had to think about that one for a minute.
a good time was had by all. you can't ask for more than that!!!
oh, forgot to show the goody bags! each guest got a make-your-own-smores bag. so fun!
oh, and the inside of the cake!!! i almost forgot...
not a great pic, but a fun cake, right?
maybe tomorrow i'll show the cake i made on bubba's actual birthday last week. and if anyone has a tried-&-true buttercream icing let me know. mine keep failing. in my family we always use a 7-minute icing, which i LOVE, but i keep searching for the perfect buttercream. it's a life-long quest.

Looks wonderful and so much fun! Wish we could have been there. Miss you guys. Love y'all.
