family room wall...finally

first off, my disclaimer.  i'm ashamed to admit it...but i still don't know how to use my dslr camera.  i can change the iso...but that's it.  and a couple of weeks ago my trusty standby lens started doing something weird.  {it's totally me...i know it.}

but here we go anyway, right?

i have so many house projects going I can't even keep things straight:
* just this morning someone came to measure all the windows for new blinds/plantation shutters
* last week the landscaper came
* a few weeks ago the house was measured for flooring (we then decided to rip out existing hardwoods and put new hardwood throughout the entire house)

but i can now mark off my list the big family room wall .  yeehaw.

drum roll, please........

yes.  a typography wall.  love.  it.

i'll admit.  i've never been a trendy person.  when girls were wearing blue eye shadow and frosty pink lipstick, i was sans makeup and bang-less curly hair....often in a braid or just long and crazy.  {read: granola girl.  still am.}

typography is trendy right now.  and i'm a-ok with it.  cuz i luvs it.

every letter, every number has meaning.  all our names are represented.  all numbers are representative of our anniversary and the #5 is our family number.

the m in that shadow box above was made with a vintage extendable ruler.  the 5's and the I are vintage metal signage.

this is my least favorite shadow box.  {ooh!  i just realized my 99 is missing on top of this!  hilarious!  doh doh must've been playing....hmm.  you can see it in the 2nd picture above.  and i just found it under the couch.}

i'm not sure what it is...but my man likes it the best.  so...sigh.  the 5 card inside the box and the blocks that spell five are all from an old kids game.  i so love it.  the I is from hobby lobby and the B is a plastic old signage piece.

that big 5 is an old gas station number.

the big m gets the most attention.  my man hates the font.  it reminds him of m&ms.  and every time he tells people that, doh doh goes straight for the pantry and demands requests m&ms.

i actually had the m made.  i have looked for years (the reason this wall took so long) at vintage signs, junk yards, etc. i finally decided to order a wooden one from an etsy seller.  but it was going to be pricey.

so i contacted a local plastic company and had them make this 3 foot letter.

it's just like they use for signs, and cost me half of what i was originally going to pay!

it came in this white plastic.  it was originally covered in a protective paper.

i spray painted it a glossy red...which is really awesome but makes it super hard to photograph. ;)

and that's it.  what do you think???

and guess what?!?!  while working on this post, best buy called.  my new phone is in!  {in case you missed the memo, i shattered the screen on my phone.}  i'm counting down the minutes til i pick up my fellas and we can go pick it up!  i think while i'm there i'll pick up a better shatter-proof case.

have a great weekend!
