basically, they're both like crack. well, buttery crack. ok, that's just...well, bizarre.
i'm not sure which category i fit into. blogger? yes. hip? how 'bout hippy? yes. absolutely. {culturally and physically.} but hip? notsamuch. fat, country girl? let's move on.
monday i cleaned out my fridge. {cue hallelujah music} i said november was going to be my fall cleaning month. i've started early.....more on that later. back to my
basically they were getting mushy.
and that made me think of paula deen. {stick with me} long ago i saw an episode where she told a story about first launching her business. with very little money, she went to grocery stores to buy their old fruit. too mushy to sell, but perfect for making jam. she related that, and appropriately so, to life. just b/c the fruit wasn't perfect to eat as is, didn't mean it wasn't perfect for something else.
you get so much insight when you read my blog. no?
so with a bowl full of imperfect peaches staring at me, i thought of miss paula. so i googled her peach cobbler recipe and here we are. yes, it took that many paragraphs for me to tell you this is a cooking post. {sigh}
i'm not much of a cobbler girl. and neither is my man.
but when life gives you mushy peaches.....
enter miss paula and all her buttery goodness.
from food network:
4 cups peeled, sliced peaches
2 cups sugar, divided
1/2 cup water
8 T butter
1 1/2 cup self-rising flour (I didn't have any so i added some baking powder and salt to my all purpose)
1 1/2 cup milk
cinnamon (it says optional...it isn't)
preheat oven to 350. combine peaches, 1 cup sugar, and water in saucepan and mix well. bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes. remove from heat.
put butter in 3-qt baking dish and put in oven to melt.
mix remaining 1 cup sugar, flour, and milk slowly to prevent clumping.
pour mixture over melted butter. do not stir. spoon peaches on top, gently pouring in syrup. sprinkle top with cinnamon.
just make sure you use cinnamon and not cumin.
batter will rise to top during baking. bake 30-45 minutes. serve with whipped cream of vanilla ice cream.
this was my first non-crust cobbler to make. i usually do a pie crust, lots of cinnamon and sugar. this is cake-like. my man wasn't really a fan. so the leftovers were delivered to my brother's house. i'm a giver like that.
** here's the funny story: not long ago my man was making toast for the kids. {cue hallelujah music. i kid. i kid.} he used cumin. instead of cinnamon. he thought it smelled different. *ahem* bruiser told him it didn't taste right. he finally checked the label. i have no clue what cumin and sugar taste like together. let's hope my man never decides to make me breakfast in bed.

I'm into Paula Deen and PW crack. That cobbler turned out great, I'm dying for a taste. :)
