are you watching???

i want someone to come and do THIS Bunheads dance with me.  of course, i need a ballerina.  ballet ain't my thing.  anyone?  anyone want to join me??

since one of my favorite shows was recently canceled, i have to move on....

i don't want to move on.  {read that as if an angry toddler said it while stamping a chubby little foot}  i want to watch ballerinas do some funky choreography while superb verbal repartee holds my undivided attention.

i want to be reminded of Rosalind Russell in His Girl Friday.

but with a lot more coffee.  and contemporary trivial tidbits.

pssst....i love rosalind russell....don't you?!?!  auntie mame??  hildy johnson??  love!
but until Amy Sherman-Palladino comes up with another show that a network won't cancel, i have to move on.

every night, after getting the kids to bed and taking a hot shower, i jump into bed and watch tv.  i love to watch frasier.  every night.  classic tv show.

and now Biggest Loser has started again.  i have 2 episodes recorded, but i haven't watched them yet.  {nobody spill the beans, m'kay?!?!?!}

and of course, Project Runway just finished.  HOWEVER.....tonight is the reunion special and after that is Project Runway All Stars.  anybody out there Runway fans?!?!?  planning on watching All Stars???

i'll watch the first episode...then i'll decide.  the DVR is set so it will record no matter what.  just like it's still set to record all new episodes of Bunheads.  sniff.  sniff.

i know....i need a life.

soooo, what are you watching?  betcha can't beat Bunheads.  am i right??  {sigh}

fall comfort food

i love being a wife, a mom.  and i absolutely love staying at home and taking care of my family.

and i'll admit...it's the hardest job i've ever had.

there are days i get discouraged......
when i'm tired of doing the exact same job every day...and getting the exact same result.
when i'm tired of pretending i'm a princess and my mom just gave me a new puppy...and i have to pretend to be excited about it.  {this is Doh Doh's favorite game du jour}
when i just can't possibly sing Aurora's Once Upon a Dream one more time as i give a "tickle back."
when i'm ready to shower and scrub away the sweat of the day but a freshly scrubbed fella wants to snuggle and talk football moments before he drifts off to sleep.

there are days i wish i knew how the Proverbs 31 woman did it.
and there are days i lose sight of that Proverbs woman...and i listen to the world.
every day i try to be better at my job.
and what i've failed at lately is meal planning.  and trying new foods.
anybody else out there have a carefree summer?!?!?!

but last week that changed.
we tried 3 new recipes.  {thank you, pinterest}
and my crockpot got dusted off, and fall comfort foods took center stage.

the first night i made chicken philly sandwiches.
my house smelled awesome, so I was hoping for a winner.

the verdict:  my man & Bubba tolerated it...but ate every bite.
a few bites were swallowed with copious amounts of water by Doh Doh.
and Bruiser...well, he'd still be at the dinner table right now if i didn't finally dismiss him so he could go to bed.  {read:  notafan}

next up:  crockpot mongolian beef.
this is a PF Chang's knock-off...kinda.
it was a hit...kinda.

the verdict:  my man & Bubba loved it.  both declared it a repeat.
Bruiser ate over half of his & said he liked it.  {that's HUGE}
Doh Doh ate it.  just so she could have a post-dinner Butterfinger.

the last of the week's new recipes:  balsamic chicken

the verdict:  definite repeat.
my man loved it, and he's hard to please with chicken.
Bubba declared it awesome with the first bite.
Bruiser ate it all, no complaints.  {that's HUGE}
Doh Doh ate all of hers.  with a little coaxing.

i served this chicken with fried okra, green beans, tomatoes and cucumbers.  all from my parents' garden.  perhaps the last of the tomatoes for the season...but a super delicious meal.

so now i'm working on new recipes for next week.  any suggestions???
if you need ideas, you can find other recipes i've shared here and here.

by the way, do you enjoy listening to sermons???  if interested in hearing more about the Proverbs 31 woman and "The Blessings of God in a Covenant Family" you can listen to our pastor's sermon here.

i should've seen it coming

i've written about this before.

and my apologies if you're not a fan of Amy Sherman-Palladino.

i am.

and i'm sad.

this awesome show was canceled.

so no more checking my dvr to see if new episodes recorded.

anybody else sad about this???  any other bunheads out there??!?!

am i the only one who hears Fanny's voice while i'm at the barre in barre class?

yes?  it's just me?

i'm ok with that...i think.

today {and tomorrow}

today

we went to visit friends who just adopted a new baby

it was a great day
and i got to inhale the luscious aroma of a newborn

y'all....those chubby cheeks...oh my mercy
doh doh's first words to Daddy when we got home were all about the umbilical cord
true story

tomorrow

i take my girl to see her first live stage production

i can't even begin to tell you how excited i am!!!!!
although i am a little worried that she'll be scared of the Beast

i've tried to think back, and i think my first live stage production was on Broadway
so Doh Doh's is off-off-way-off Broadway
but still a great show

i hope she'll remember it
i hope she won't sing along too loudly
i hope I don't sing along too loudly
i hope those seated around us find her adorable & don't ask us to move
or be quiet
if you follow me on instagram you'll be sure to see firsthand pics tomorrow
i hope none of the pics involve me fleeing our seats with a terrified 4-year old
or worse...leaving before intermission to pee

how bad would it be to make her wear a pull-up?
oh, who am i kidding...i might need some depends

{it's shameful}

Yes, I too remember the days back when I used to blog.

{sigh}

My apologies.  If there are any of you dear readers still out there.....

So today.....

* my Bruiser is sick.  strep.  'tis the season, i suppose.  last night i found him lying in his own vomit (is that TMI??? sorry!) and HE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW.  {oh. my.}

* Bubba just walked in dripping sweat all over.  it's football season, y'all.

* we've had a lazy day.  i took Bruiser to the doctor this morning.  then we came home and lounged around.  he played Minecraft and Clash of Clans.  Doh Doh & i read.

* right now i'm watching Frasier while working on this post.  oh my.  i love this show.

* since we were just sitting around i got online and looked for new boots for Doh Doh.  i found these.  on sale.  how cute are they???

* if you follow me on instagram, you've already seen this.  but this was a pic i took of us before school started.  i was trying to come to terms with bidding adieu to our summer.

* Bubba is now reading Henry Huggins.  he is way, way behind on his reading goal.  this has NEVER happened.  he just has a chapter left and he's finished.  and then he'll be back outside playing football.

* speaking of instagram, do you follow meg?  she posted this picture the other day and i've just got to do this!!!!  don't you love it???

* i found out the other day i will be hosting my man's Christmas party this year.  oh my.  it's all catered so i don't have to cook...i just have to have a clean house.  decorated.  for Christmas.  laugh all you want, but i've already started cleaning.  last week i cleaned all ceiling fans and light fixtures...which will have to be done again...but it feels good to get that done.  and i need to make a list of all the bazillion unfinished decorating projects that better get finished quick.

* happy first day of October.  i'm going to finally climb in my attic and get out my fall decor.  and yes, i meant to do it in september...but at least it's not november.  right?!?!

just a little crafty

not only am i a terrible blogger these days, but i'm also a terrible crafter.

{sigh}

but last night i crafted.

{gasps from the audience}

and it was fun!!!  it wasn't much, but it was just enough to get me excited about crafting again.

my sweet, sweet daughter informed me she does NOT like the pompom fringe.  WHAT?!?!?!  pompom fringe SCREAMS Doh Doh.

but alas, she didn't like it.  and as i look at that picture above...i'm not sure i like it on there either.  which means...i'll probably add more.

because you know i won't take it off!!!!  i mean, come on!  i already did subdued colors!  what more do you want from me?!?!

for the first time, i made these felt flowers.

LOVE them.  and so easy to make!!!!  i found a great tutorial {via pinterest} here.

i don't have a close-up picture of the other one i made, but i put a button in the middle.  so cute.  and that happened to be Doh Doh's favorite.

so now i'm ready for my next project.  which i know is going to involve spray paint.  because i have 6 chairs i'm going to paint.  and recover the seats with new fabric.  i'm fired up about it...seriously.

and though this has nothing to do with crafting, here's what we had for dinner tonight.  oh my word.

i'd fight ya for the burnt pieces.  mmmmmmmm.

something weird

confession:

i love bookstores.

i love libraries.

my boys love the book drop at our library.

i love the crinkle sound of the plastic wrapped around library hardbacks.

i get overwhelmed in libraries.

i have to have a goal when i enter a library.  and even a bookstore.  otherwise i get lost.  which is fine with me.  not so fine with my kiddos.

i adore young adult fiction.  unless it has vampires.  or werewolves.  or anything other than normal people in normal people situations.  and if it's 30 years old or older i'm even happier.

i haven't read YA fiction in years.  but i stroll through the section every time i go to the library.  and look at past titles i've read.

i'm watching project runway right now.  {which doesn't have anything to do with books but i thought i'd mention it.}

i love the crinkle sound of the pastic wrapped around library hardbacks.

especially children's books.  as i hold them up while reading aloud.

i've been a terrible mother and my kids haven't read much this summer.  but we're changing that.

bruiser started reading aloud a Magic Tree House book to me.  he's on chapter 6.  and can hardly wait to read more.  i love that.

bubba is grounded tomorrow and can't use his ipod or even watch tv.  i hate for reading to ever be a punishment, but hopefully he'll read some in the morning before tennis lessons.  he's usually my reader, but hasn't wanted to even crack a cover this summer!

we have back to back tennis lessons for bubba and me tomorrow.  after that i even have a tennis clinic.  but at some point tomorrow, i'm hoping to squeeze in a trip to the library.

if nothing more, just to hear the crinkle of that plastic.
