the disney family

one summer when i was a kid, a family member came to stay with us for awhile.  during her stay she dubbed us the disney family.

she was right on the money.

in my family we like lighthearted movies.  entertainment not reality, thankyaverymuch.  this drives my husband insane.  but i can see enough reality in everyday life.  when i sit down to watch something i want to be en-ter-tained.

as a kid i was the only one of my friends to have the disney channel.  i can only imagine that at one point the cable company ran some kind of special.  my parents are the frugalest of the frugal, and certainly not ones to really pay for anything something like that.  but it was well worth it.

back in those days {i've always wanted to say that!!!} the disney channel showed all the classics:  think jodi foster, kurt russell, hayley mills, annette funnicello....all the greats.

pollyanna was, still is, and is now one of my family's favorites.  it.  is.  awesome.

my grandmother even bought me a dress somewhat like one miss pollyanna wears in the movie.    i hated when i outgrew that dress.  sniff, sniff.

not long ago, i referenced pollyanna.  only to be received with blank stares from the masses.  no one.....i repeat NO ONE.....had seen pollyanna.

wha?!?!?  huh?!?!?!  how is that possible?!?!?!

go.  watch it.  today.  like, right NOW.  let your kids watch it.  not only is it one seriously fantastic movie BUT it is a good depiction of the christian faith.

although this scene isn't the one i referenced (to the glazed eyes of the masses), but it's soooooo funny!!

if you haven't seen the movie i won't spill the beans.  BUT the scene i'm talking about is so awesome.  pollyanna confronts the minister, who was always taking orders from her aunt polly.  he falls to his knees, begging for the Lord's forgiveness.  it's wonderful.

that mr. disney.  he knew what he was doing.  wonder what he'd think now?

oh well.  go watch pollyanna anyway.  now.  you can borrow my copy.  if you promise to return it.

  1. I swear we grew up next door to each other in a different land. I LOVE Pollyanna and that is my nickname at work :)
