the makings of a costume

when i was in college i had to take costuming.  and i stunk at it.  i was given the job of sewing accessory bags for cast members of whatever show we were working on.  oh, and cleaning and organizing the hopeless wardrobing area.

{i did come away with some great vintage jewelry though.}

but that's another topic for another day.

at the time, i had no desire to make costumes.  and b/c i was needed in the productions...well, i had to pass.  so i did laundry.  and i cleaned.  and i sewed little things.  but i stayed away from the real artistry of the pieces.  oh for shame.....

so it might be just a little ironic that i made doh doh's costume for halloween.

but toy story is her passion.  and jessie she needed to be.  i knew i was going to make it and immediately bought fabric.  and when i saw the $30 price tag on a jessie costume at target, i knew i could beat that.

i certainly didn't give myself enough time.
and i didn't expect my machine to die in the middle of making it.  *sigh*

i had a little help along the way.....those are straight pins around my bobbin.  i guess she figured since it was her costume she needed to contribute in some way.  right??!?!

after chap numero uno, my machine started acting funny.  midway thru chap numero dos, it went kaput.  {is that how you spell kaput?}

dear Lord, thank you for the wonder that is known as the glue gun.  amen.

oh, and thank you for heat 'n bond.  and dads who can fix sewing machines.  even if it was a week after i needed it.  amen again.

i must admit, after my machine went down i kept hearing tim gunn say, MAKE IT WORK.

i hope everyone knows tim gunn.  tim.  gunn.  as in....tim.  gunn.  project runway.  hello?  he-hello???  is this thing on?

broken machine or not, i thought she looked super cute.

i had a blast making it.  and i hope that maybe next year she'll let me do it again.

or  maybe the following year.  or the year after that.  i mean, i wore my wonder woman under-roos -- complete with invisible jet -- for like 3 halloweens.  surely she can rock jessie at least that many.

oh, and by the way, the fantastic belt seen in the photos

was mine circa 1979.  it has my name on the back.  yeah, i totally rocked it back then.

why isn't there a sarcasm font?

i had to point out the belt b/c i dug around in my attic until i found it.  it was late.  it was cold.  and then the belt turned out too big for her.  i was 4 when i wore it....otherwise i'd probably have a complex right now.  shut up.

oh what a difference

a year makes.

*sigh*
