yes, i was extremely proud.
he had no idea what he was doing. which made the entire thing even cuter.

one of the things i love about tennis is that you have to be accountable and HONEST. it teaches you a lot. and shows your character. of course, at 7.....well, it's just the beginning.
the first girl he played called everything out that she couldn't get to in time. hilarious. they're 7, people. unfortunately, her parents sat next to me on the bench. coaching all along the way. {and they don't play tennis}
tennis isn't really that kind of sport. in fact, if the kids were just a year older, she would've been penalized for their actions. {i was told they did have to be reprimanded in her later matches.}
while sitting on the bench, her dad said to me, "ya know, it's ok to yell at 'em and coach 'em from the sidelines."
i politely responded, "yeah, that's not really my thing."
he paused a moment, then asked, "well, what is your thing?"
"throwing them in and making them figure it out all on their own."
i could've just imagined it, but i think he scooted away from me on the bench.
that's ok.
my kid lost 3 matches and won only 1. but he came away with some valuable experience.
and a t-shirt. don't forget the t-shirt. it even glows in the dark.
