i'm taking a craft weekend posting break today. lots of you have asked questions! i'll get to it. i promise. but my house is a disaster area. i need a pictureless post today. quick and easy....that's my motto for today. *wink*
you & i could be friends in real life if....
* you've ever vacuumed crumbs off your kitchen table
* your husband sits down to an all-you-can-eat buffet and loses 2 pounds the next morning
* you stare at cheesecake and gain 1.5 pounds
* you ever invented indoor sock speed skating b/c it was easier than dusting the hardwoods
* your daughter can shake her groove thang any time she hears music, or is told to shake her booty...and you never EVER taught her
* you dump the contents of one milk cup into the cup of another kid b/c you're too tired to get up to conserve milk
* you've ever uttered the words to your husband, "babe, i don't really care what you do to me...just don't wake me up"
* you've turned your kid's underwear inside out b/c you haven't done laundry
* you've ever cried over your child not having any friends
* you've ever cried just b/c someone else was crying
* you've ever showered while your husband stood right next to the shower door with a screaming baby....while milk runs down your legs
* your heart aches for the motherless, the fatherless, and the unloved
* you go barefoot everywhere
* you've ever cleaned puke out of your cleavage
* you've stroked the hair of a child so sick and weak that when the next wave of sickness came you had to hold him up to puke
* certain songs make you close your eyes and dance...no matter where you are
* you've belted out show tunes in your dorm stairwell just b/c your bestie was having a crappy day
* you've belted out show tunes at any given moment of any given day and not cared less what your fellow pizza eaters thought of you
* you've cringed listening to your 2-year old say crap knowing she learned it from her daddy (don't judge)
* you smooch all over your babies after they're sound asleep in bed, then you go back later and smooch some more
* you apologize in a blog post to your small group who are coming to dinner sunday night and your house is a disaster area *ugh*
happy weekend, y'all!!!!!
come back monday for more about craft weekend! i'm getting emails {and texts!!!} asking questions. feel free to leave a comment and i'll answer it.
to go away for a craft weekend {with a group of complete strangers}........
JUST DO IT.
pics above from Meg
{If you know me at all, you know my obsession with Nike. So I just had to. I had to JUST DO IT. *wink*}
Years ago, before kids, some girlfriends and I used to sneak away for a weekend at my friend's cabin. We scrapbooked the entire time. I don't really scrap anymore and have always preferred other crafts over scrapbooking, but I still long for those weekends.
They were fun.
Craft Weekend was like that, but.....way more....way, way more......and it was....well, it was...... .........GLORIOUS. I promise that is no over-kill.
Y'all, not even looking at the craft aspect of it -- which was AWESOME -- but the friendships
the bonding
the sharing
the uninterrupted by wiping a rear end while holding a mouthful of needles b/c I was in the middle of pinning a sewing project........ Well, you get it.
It was bliss. (the lady pics...again from Meg)
And I came home to sloppy wet kisses, a filthy house, school folders unsigned and untouched, laundry......all that to prove that I am needed. *grin*
By the way, last year when I was purchasing a new camera I got the WORST ADVICE EVER and bought a point & shoot instead of the dSLR I so craved. That is my disclaimer for MY crappy photos. Please hop over to Ashley's, Meg's and Kimberlee's blogs for more of their photos. I'll share links to my fellow crafters' blogs at the end. They have AWESOME photos!!
We started with aprons. I've made aprons before, but this was a twist. We started with a plain white apron and jazzed it up. Not having to construct my own? Awesome. Adding a ruffle to something plain?? Perfection.
Mine is the one on the far left end. (pic from Meg) Don't you love all the color???
Bib necklaces were next on the agenda. I haven't finished mine just yet b/c I have the PERFECT antique beads from my grandmother to go with it.
Mine is red, aqua, and white. Go figure. *wink*
Third and final {group} project was pillows. I won't be showing mine. Mine turned out a little too floppy. More sewing and some tweaking....and Tim Gunn saying in my ear MAKE IT WORK. Maybe then I'll share. {ahem}
More tomorrow on the craft house, antiquing, and the SWAG. Seriously, we got such great stuff, from great sponsors, that I plan on doing a post on it. To thank them. For all 4 of you who read my blog, I'm sure they'll appreciate it. *wink*
But for now, I'm off. {yes, in more ways than one} I'm off to start my dSLR shopping and researching. Anyone have one they'd like to unload sell to a sweet, Southern sucker? I mean, lady. A sweet, Southern lady. ahem.
Oh. Y'all.
I just got back from Craft Weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Remember me talking about it? I meant to do a post last week about going. But I was too busy wiping the tears of a kindergarten little boy who still hates school, scaling mountains of laundry, vacuuming up the fuzz from a new wool living room rug, sorting thru all the paper that comes home from school {and even Doh Doh's Mother's Day Out program....grrr}....
I left Friday for Kansas for a wonderful crafting weekend getaway.
I have to say that several thought I was insane. Ok, so probably all of you thought I was insane as well. But I didn't care. And I was right....the weekend was awesome!!!
I crafted with....
Meg
Kimberlee
Ashley
(yes....it's ok to be jealous of me)
and 10 other amazing women! (more on that later)
I'll be back tomorrow {ok, let's be honest.....it might not happen tomorrow} for more details. Like the crafts we made, the awesome ladies I crafted with, the quaint little town we stayed in, the antique store & barn we went to, and the haul of awesome stuff I came home with {read: SWAG}. Awesome.
I wonder how many times I can say awesome in one post? Wow. Awesome. *wink*
But for now, I'm off to snuggled up with these chubby little fingers.... {oh, how I missed them!}
......and sort laundry, scrub Doh Doh's yogurt stains off the new rug and new couch *sigh*, watch the men's US Open final, strip the sheets off my bed since I came home to Dorito crumbs in my bed thanks to 3 widdle kids, and watch some Golden Girls. Yes, I missed my Girls.
Oh, and at some point I'll be able to share pictures taken by Meg of all of us ladies. Yay! In the meantime, enjoy the 2 pics above....also taken by Meg. I have yet to upload pics from my camera. Gotta add that to my to-do list.
Awesome.
By the way, over the weekend I tried to find a post I did awhile back and couldn't find it. This is just a friendly warning if you're looking thru my labels. I'm terrible at labeling!! TERRIBLE. It's that whole organizational gene I wasn't born with. Sigh.
i love these pictures so much
not just because of the goofy faces
and in spite of the fact that all are blurry........... *sigh* (ihatemycamera)
it was the behind the scenes that i love so much.
a day spent mostly outside.
the winding down of dinner time....and a picnic to boot.
but the conversation was the best.
big brother, sharing with little brother, what was done in his kindergarten class.
sharing what is yet to come for his little brother
sharing about centers
sharing what it will be like as he learns to read
sharing what it will be like as a 1st grader
sharing his stories...his 2nd grade wisdom
and listening.
and i dared listen. and snap pictures. and giggle. and just enjoy.
Doh Doh has her first crush.
Yes, it's difficult on her Daddy. He is none too thrilled with it.
Especially since he absolutely can't compete with him. At all.
We know it won't last long.
Chances are he won't break her heart.
So I've absolutely got to document her first love.
Go easy on her, Buzz. Her love is strong. Her love is real. She's even spending countless hours with you every day.
And yes, I'm gonna go there, folks. Buzz, you take her to infinity....and beyond.
Ok, you know I had to. Sorry, but it's too funny.
And you should hear my girl say Buzz's infamous line. Of course, we'd have to explain to you what she said...but it's hilarious.
Buzz love. It's what's happenin' in Doh Doh's life these days.
Many of you woke yesterday morning excited with the nip in the air.
I almost shed tears. I kid you not.
It's not that I don't enjoy Fall....I just really LOVE summer. And the older I get, the worse it gets. I used to love the 4 seasons. Now I dread anything but Spring and Summer.
What's really bad is that I'm married to a winter-lover. Go figure. Opposites truly attract.
So anyway, fighting thu my depression over summer leaving me, over the weekend we started sorting thru a few hand-me-downs. These jammies absolutely crack me up.
What cracks me up even more - besides the stance - is that this is my extremely hot-natured child.
In footed jammies.
When all he can sleep in is underwear.
With one sheet covering him.
Even in the dead of winter.
That's his cousin's beach hat. In footed jammies. ilovethisboy

Yesterday I made bruschetta for lunch. And for the first time all summer I used store-bought tomatoes and onions. Ugh. My basil is full, beautiful, and growing like a weed. But my maters......siiiiiigh.
I did find this one, hidden in the back, but as you can see it ain't a great one. Do you see why I hate Fall? And winter???????
My roses, however, are in full bloom. shhhh, even the ones I neglected all summer.

I know this is going to seem really weird to you all. But I have no secrets.
And clearly no shame.
Yesterday I put a shower curtain liner in the boys' bathroom.
The curtain I had. A liner....well, it was never really top priority.
So I snagged a cute sea-themed liner. And for the first time since moving in almost a year ago, they used their own shower. And my shower heaved a sigh of relief. *wink*
And Doh Doh liked it, too. hilarious.

And I leave you with this. The note left on Bubba's plate after dinner last night.
What a nerd.
{And yes, I'm teaching him to spell FINISHED.}
* after school we ran to my parents' house . while having a deep philosophical discussion with my dad *giggle* i hear my number one son yell from the bathroom, "no, it's ok nana. i can wipe my own butt now!!" {sigh} we ooze such class at the house of M.
* here lately i've been hearing from people "it must be so fun at your house!" i don't know why they say this. perhaps it's b/c the princess bops around everywhere to a tune in her own head. or perhaps it's the endless amount of crafting supplies. or the air guitars {or banjos, depending on which venue} we all strum. or me yelling once again that flip flops are all over the family room. or my temper tantrum b/c bath toys didn't get picked up...again. or the sticky floors in the kitchen. i have no idea. but i heard it again today. and it makes me smile.
* i just had to put an alert on my phone to remind me to call for an eyebrow wax tomorrow. is that sad? that i can't remember something that simple? it's been oh so long since i've gone. i wish it were easier to make an appt. like, ONLINE. if you're reading this jen.....see what you can do about that. oh, and also -- just to prep you -- get out the weedwhacker, some lawn & garden trash bags, and a fresh pot of wax -- and back-up wax. it ain't gonna be pretty.
* i'm watching tennis. the us open. the second set is almost finished, and djokovic is leading. the other player, berlocq, has yet to even score. the crowd is beginning to root for him.
* do you tire of my tennis talk? cuz it's about to get worse. i start lessons next week. it's been so long since i've played. on the phone with the tennis pro this week she asked me, "how long has it been since you played?" my response: "noneya bid'ness...that's how long."
* i went to target today. and blew half my shopping budget for the month. the baby girl fall clothes are out. 'nuff said. i got other stuff too....but the pillows i brought home did NOT work at all. all will be returned tomorrow...adding back to that budget. *wink*
* bruiser made it ALL DAY today without crying. and get this -- he ate lunch! yes, we're 2 weeks into school and he hasn't eaten a thing outta his lunchbox yet. brings it straight home and devours it. i'd tell you here that he also doesn't eat breakfast, but i'm afraid you'd think less of me as a mother. *wink* he also got a stamp out of the treasure box. see?
* yes, that's MY arm. yes, i have seriously hairy arms. yes, i'm a girl. nooo, i do not care.
* you are = you're; your = possessive form of you; it is NOT "rather then," it is "rather than;" it is = it's; its = possessive form of it; it is NOT Sarah & I's, it is mine & Sarah's; to = preposition, used in many situations; too= adverb, used primarily to mean in addition to or as an affirmative, or to mean extremely or very.
* does grammatical accuracy make me a snob? i'm too upset with all the mistakes i see. i'm out to change the world! {did you see what i did right there? to? too? get it??}
* parents, educators, i implore you....please teach your children the difference. or i will come to your house -- with my red pen -- and teach them for you.
* napkin artwork. it's what's for lunch. ha. everyday my boys get a new napkin piece of art. and they never know what it's going to be. truly, it's the simple things in life.
* i had a lunch date with my man today. i even threw on some tinted moisturizer this morning. i've shared before that i don't wear makeup in the summer, right? anyway, tonight while washing my face i realized i never put on mascara. meaning i had tinted moisturizer on my lashes...all day...which explains why any time i caught a glimpse of myself i kept thinking, "wow....i used to think this moisturizer looked better on me." but no worries....my man likes me better without makeup. i married the cream of the crop.
* the lego magazine came this week. there was lots of drool.
* and that is one seriously long bullet point post. my apologies. happy friday, y'all.
