back to school {sniff, sniff}

it's no secret.  i love summer.  i love everything about it.

swimming in the lake.  swimming in the pool.  laying out at the lake.  laying out at the pool.  bouncing over the waves in the ski boat as you search for a less crowded swimming hole.  or less choppy water for the perfect ski.  watching spongebob curled up on a steamy hot afternoon.  watching lightening bugs at night on the covered deck under the ceiling fan.  fresh picked tomatoes straight from the backyard.  fried okra from my dad's garden.  art projects when the heat keeps you inside.

LOVE IT.  BIG TIME.

but our summer is over.  (it's weird that i talked about the lake and we didn't even go once!!)  and the kiddos have gone back to school.  for a whole week now.

3rd grade.  seriously?!?!  how did that happen???  didn't he just start kindergarten?

and my baby boy?!?  how did he start 1st grade???  how?

i told you before.  bruiser is incapable of making a normal face when a camera is around.  good.  grief.

it was a hilarious back to school morning.

BUBBA woke up early.
made his bed before ever leaving his room.
completed other chores, including one of his brother's.
was fully dressed before breakfast was served.
was too nervous to eat.

BRUISER slept in.
ate a huge breakfast.
barely made his bed.
curled up to watch spongebob.
couldn't find his shoe.
left his lunch at home and we had to go back.

we arrived at school late, which meant i couldn't walk them in for the first day.  in hindsight it was better that way for bruiser.  but it absolutely KILLED MOMMA.  i almost texted a teacher friend for her to go check on them.  but i didn't.

besides, i knew bubba would perfectly deliver his brother to his class AND teacher.  then he'd march himself to his room - ever so obediently - and follow instructions after that.  what a nerd.

we've got a whole week under our belts, two amazing teachers we are absolutely BLESSED to have this year, and plenty of friends.  but it doesn't make it easier for this momma!!!  let's look at last year, shall we???

oh.  good.  grief.  so.  cute.

yikes.  i'd forgotten their hair was ever that long!!!  ha!

and just a couple more......this was his first day of K4....which was really Mother's Day Out, but with a preschool emphasis.  please tell me you notice his milk mustache.  right?!?!

and bubba's first day of 1st grade.  oh my.  i love my boys.

and now i'm off to eat something chocolatey and have too much caffeine.  i'm depressed.
